Sutter Connect has developed a single system strategy, utilizing one integrated system as the foundation to provide the broad range of application services to our clients. It also allows for effective use of information technology resources that support a common application environment for electronic data interchanges, data warehouse development and interfaces to other internal and external business and clinical applications.


IDX Technology

Sutter Connect uses the IDX Systems Corporation IDXtend® health care system as its core foundation system. Sutter Connect is one of the largest users of the IDX system in the nation. IDXtend® integrates applications for financial management, managed care, and practice management. The set of IDX applications functions offered by Sutter Connect to support our Managed Care Administration (MCA) and Billing and Accounts Receivable (BAR) services include member enrollment, benefit management, provider network management, referral and authorization processing, case management, claims, capitation, billing and accounts receivable, practice management, appointment scheduling, and customer service.

Sutter Connect Online

Through Sutter Connect Online, we offer Internet-based access to the IDXtend® applications for our clients and their providers and support staff to check eligibility and claims status, enter referral requests, and review authorizations anytime, anywhere.

Other Applications

Sutter Connect makes other application functions available to clients for use at their business sites that fully integrate with MCA and BAR IDXtend® applications operated directly by Sutter Connect staff. Additional practice management applications available to clients include:

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)

To improve efficiency, timeliness, and accuracy, and be more cost-effective, Sutter Connect promotes the use of electronic data interchanges with clients and payers across all feasible operational functions. Some of the health care transactions currently being conducted via EDI include claims and encounters, health plan enrollment, eligibility and transmission acknowledgements, and payments and remittance advices. Sutter Connect uses a state-of-the-art translation and security systems and employs cutting edge transmission methods. This translation system allows Sutter Connect to generate application to application mapping for a variety of proprietary formats that perform "lights out" processing for batch and real-time submissions.

Data Warehouse and Management

Sutter Connect has developed an extensive Data Warehouse system using Crystal Reporting and multi-dimensional data cubes with a series of servers for data storage and processing. The Data Warehouse system provides timely data processing and distribution of standard and specialized reporting across the functional areas of finance, operations, utilization management, clinical performance, regulatory compliance and quality assurance.

Decision Support provides programming and internal custom application development. Web Application Development develops the tools for individuals to access the Sutter Connect environment and secure desired information such as on line claims status, and referral authorization status. Data Warehousing maintains the optimal infrastructure to support, house, and deploy the vast amount of data and information required for operations. The goal of our Data Warehouse functions is to provide a single, reliable source of data and migrate large numbers of users from limited static, hard copy single snap-shot reports to dynamic, timely, and accurate inquiry and reporting capability at their personal desktop.


Technical Support

Sutter Connect provides an extensive and skilled technical team to deliver, train and support the technology products and services for our user communities. IT Production Services provides the technical support to IT Computer Operations, Applications Support, Desktop and Network Support, Systems Support, and Data Management. Through these dedicated technical resources, Sutter Connect ensures fully-functioning, reliable systems and applications for our internal staff and clients.
